Women that have had hysterectomies? Which surgery should I have?

I have a fibroid tumor in my uterus and it needs to be removed. It is causing severe anemia. I can't even function anymore. I am past childbearing age. Should I just get the tumor removed or should I go ahead and get a partial hysterectomy? How long does it take to recove from that surgery?

I was having the same issues and I had an Endometerial Ablation. Look it up on the internet and read a lot about it. Basically it is an outpatient surgery and they go in and clean the uterus and then put a fliud in there that scars the lining and stops the periods. You get the same effect, most do, as a hysterectomy without having to have major sugery or deal with the hormones and stuff. Research it and ask the doctor if it would work for you.
Good luck

I have the same as you and iam going the whole hog and having a hysterectomy because fibroid tumors can come back. ive been told it takes 3 months to fully recover. You just have to take things easy xx

I'm not sure that you have a choice in this matter. That is, is your doctor able to remove the tumor without taking out the uterus? It might not be possible due to the size of the tumor. On the other hand, there are other options, like uterine artery embolization. YOu could ask your doctor if that is possible. If you can get a second opinion, I'd recommend going to a local teaching hospital (one affiliated with a medical school). They are up on the latest techniques. If you HAVE to have your uterus out, then do it. Many women are fine after this surgery, and given how bad the situation is now, I think you'll be better off afterwards. But don't let them take your ovaries. Even if you are past menopause, your ovaries are still useful-they continue to produce hormones. And there's nothing wrong with them.
