I had my wound dressing changed 2day after a Total Hysterectomy The nurse said it would b a year b4 I'm back 2

normal! Is that true?

If the total hysterectomy was done through an incision in the abdomen the recovery period is a bit longer than a vaginal hysterectomy.

All people are different in their recovery time, personally I had a vaginal hysterectomy along with a rectocyle repair of the vaginal wall - in 8 weeks I was fine for light exercise and gentle sexual activity.

I'd say that everything should be ok after 2-3 months following an abdominal hysterectomy.

She may have been referring to "back to normal" as being your hormones and feelings, that can take a little longer than the physical healing but for most women it resolves rather quickly. Personally speaking I was fine hormonally and emotionally within 3 months.

Hope you get to feeling better!

i was told 6 months.my mum was fine and healthy earlyer than that but was completely able to do anything after 6 and felt great.

I will assume it was a total Hysterectomy in which case not only will you have to heal physically and get your energy back but you have your hormones to deal with. They will slowly deplete and that's the area that may take a year to get regulated. Not knowing if hormone replacement therapy has been talked about, I would strongly recommend you see an Endocrinologist to help you with that issue. They are the fore most authority on your hormonal well being. I wish you the very best and don't wait too long to see a Endo. about this issue. It's the difference between feeling well or not. It will cut down the time you need to be recovered from the Hystorectomy.
