Does anyone have information on Compartment Syndrome? I went for a hysterectomy and came out with this.?

I went to have a large pelvic mass removed and have a total hysterectomy. I came out of surgery cancer free. Insteade of being able to celebrate this, I found that I had alot of pain in my left shin area. Within 24 hours the pain was so severe I was out of my head. My leg was swollen, hot to the touch and lost all movement in my left ankle. I am still unable to use my left foot due to this. I laid in the hospital for almost 5 days before they diagnosed me. Once the orthopedic surgeon (the second one) saw my MRI he rushed me into surgery within an hour. He said time was critical due to possible damage of the nerves and tissues in my leg.
I am 5 weeks out of surgery and am still in so much pain. No one can tell me if the nerve damage is permanent or not. I am missing so much work and will be off until I am strong enough to use the brace that is being made for me.
Does anyone know more about this and any advise?

Compartment Syndrome must be handled emergently, because it shuts off the blood supply to the limb. It can be hard to diagnose.
Common causes of compartment syndrome include tibial or forearm fractures, ischemic-reperfusion following injury, hemorrhage, vascular puncture, intravenous drug injection, casts, prolonged limb compression, crush injuries and burns.
It is odd that you got Compartment Syndrome after a hysterectomy. It is not considered a risk in abdominal surgery.
