I'm a little confuse about hysterectomy?

Isn't it a surgery done on the uterus so women can't get pregnant, right? Or am I wrong? I'm confused because my husbands mother is getting a surgery and she is over 50.

No. A side effect of hysterectomy is that a woman will not longer be able to bear children so she will be sterile. Hysterectomies are done for women who have been experiencing severe dysfunctional uterine bleeding, are suffering from large fibrous, benign tumors, for cancer of the uterus, for pain during menstruation and intercourse when the uterus is not in the right place, and when the uterus has prolapsed...basically, it is falling into the vagina. It is a very common surgery, but it's not done primarily to prevent pregnancy. In fact, many women who have been through it have some depression after the fact knowing they can no longer get pregnant if there was a desire to have more kids.

Hysterectomy, partially or totally, that means you won't get baby any more. You know the uterus, preserve the fetus. You are right.

it's the removal of all the female reproductive organs.
