After a Total Abd. Hysterectomy, Do I still need to see my GYN once a year for an exam? I know I asked but?

don't remember if he said yes or no. I am pretty sure he said yes. I had my last pap 4/08 and hyst 9/07. I am 43 and Getting ready to have my 1st mammogram. Should I make an appointment just for that. I don't do the regular checks like I am suppose to. I am having alot of other health problems so my family practice Dr. demanded I have a mammo. I am 43 butt lost of medical problems that keep happening like blood clot on lung 2 years ago, can't get blood to clot right, have to stay on blood thinners because of blood clotting disorder, family hx
of cancer. I keep loosing weight, Have lost 20 over 2weeks at christmas and can't gain it back, thyrioid messed up 1st time since on meds in 9 years. Total Exhaustion. Anyways what about a mammogram? I just dont' want to go looking for something when illness finds me all by its self.

Thanks for listening!
43 but feel 93

If your hyster was above the cervix, that is, if the cervix is still present in the vagina, then you should continue to get Pap smears done like usual, just for routine checking.

The mammogram would be a good thing to do, so you have a baseline study that is normal (presumably) in case anything changes in the future. I don't particularly agree with the yearly schedule for mammograms, but if you don't do at least occasional (should be monthly) self-exams, then yearly would probably be a good thing.

IMO the exhaustion and weight loss could well be due to your thyroid problems. You should probably get some blood work done to see what your thyroid levels are, and perhaps see an endocrinologist to get your medication changed or adjusted.

YES! I was told I only needed a pap every 3 years, but still need to go once a year. I had a hysterectomy 6 years ago.

YES!!!
