8 days after having a hysterectomy?

I am now back home 8 days after having a total hysterecomy.
I am 45 years old, size 10 and healthy, this came as a bit of a shock to me, but I had a very large fibroid that was doing jumping jacks on my bladder!!!
The problem is I'm not due to see my gyno for another three weeks, but I'm suffering from the most dreadfull night (and day) sweats. I'm taking soya tablets, but can anyone tell me if these may settle down soon, or can I take anything else that will help quickly, or do I try and bring my appointment forward?
Thanks.

i had exactly the same at xmas..for exactly the same reason. i'm taking soya/ymea tablets for sweats..but they are fading...i get the occassional night sweat now...nothing to worry about...so they do pass.

however, if you are really suffering from them..you can get hrt patches/pills from the doctors..some ladies prefer to take them - personally, i'm trying to avoid those...but if i needed them i would take them!

i wish you well...i know how horrible this operation is....it takes a while to get back to normal...i'm still a bit uncomfortable now & my op was december 21st last year!!

I had a total hysterectomy at age 33 (now 45). When you have a total hysterectomy it sends you dead into menopause.

I had my surgery done at Emery University Hospital in Atlanta and my doctor put me on estrace the day after my surgery the very next morning (one of the most natural HRT's you can take - it is made from plant extracts).

If I were you, I would call my doctor. Do NOT let them give you Premarin or Prempro.

I have my estrogen filled by a compounding pharmacist - it is better than what is manufactured.

For me, when I was on the Climara patch - and it went generic - it was a bad generic and did not deliver the 2mg per day I needed. So my Hot Flashes kicked into to overdrive (and this was only a year ago).

Good luck! But call the doc!

you just had surgery you are entitled if you feel bad to get a doctors appointment asap if you feel bad. Don't take anything the doctor does not think advisable but he has to see you... You got a right to be seen today or tomorrow under the circumstances...You can see your regular doctor he should be able to answer those questions the other doctor the specialist in hospital I suppose you have to wait...

Well, I had exactly the same problem as yours and at the same age but many years ago. There is nothing to be worried about, although this may last for another few weeks. If it is too bad, phone to your doctor and ask what you can do in the meantime.

Can you go and see your normal dr in the mean time before your next appt with the specialist? In the country where I live we have a health line you can ring and their are nurses there 24 hrs a day with really good advise and of course it doesnt cost anything. If you have any concerns...ring your dr. Take it easy and be well....

Your consultant will be reluctant to start you on HRT until at least 6 weeks following your surgery due to the risk of you getting blood clots.

I started taking high dose, evening primrose oil along with Menopace tablets (Tesco has their own version but cheaper). This has helped considerably, along with drinking soya milk.

hi go and see your gp asap..you will possibly need hrt tablets to settle your hormones down..your gp is the only person who has all the details of your case and can advise you and perscribe what you need
