Baby after hysterectomy? Likelihood?

I have one ovary remaining after a hysterectomy a few years ago. I am not certain that the ovary produces viable eggs, but hubby and I have been talking about seeing a doctor to discuss the possibility of having a baby via surrogate mother. Has anyone had any success with this? I realize it will be expensive and probably very stressful, but I just wondered if anyone had had any luck with a procedure such as this? We'd really like to have a baby together!! Thanks in advance... =)

It's very possible all they have to do is stim you to see how well your follicles react/mature and they can tell approximately how many eggs they'll get from you. The IVF part you can expect to pay somewhere around $10-$15k for. The average gestational carrier fee is $15-$25k depending on if they are epxerienced and other factors. You'd have to pay legal fees for contracts and lawyers for both parties ($500-$2k). In all you should expect to pay a minimum of $40k to go the surrogacy route

It is worth checking into. They can do amazing things with fertility medications now. So even if that ovary isn't ovulating they can possibly help it along. Even if you don't decide to get a surrogate now you can have the eggs frozen for future use. That way you won't feel like you are running out of time. Best wishes!!!!

It will depend on whether they could successfully extract an egg from the ovary or even catch it in the tube if you still have part of that. If you are still producing eggs, they might even be able to put you on some infertility pills to produce more or larger eggs before they do that proceedure but I don't know if you have to still have the womb for that process. You need to talk to an infertility specialist because they can answer all those questions.

If you've still got a healthy ovary - you probably still have viable eggs which could be placed in a surrogate womb.

I'd talk to your doctor & a fertility specialist.
