I am due to have my baby in less than a month...My Mom had a hysterectomy and contracted MRSA.?

My mother now has no outbreaks and the infection is gone, but is it still possible for her to pass it on to her new grandson? I feel horrible asking, but I just want to be extrememly careful...

Your mother can only pass it on to you or the baby if any of you have open wounds. Staph bacteria is alive on the body of most everyone. It just stays dormant unless there is an open wound.

My mother in law had MRSA for much of my pregnancy. She finally had to go into recovery and her infection finally healed about a month before my son was born. I asked my OB and my babies ped and they both said it was fine for her to be around my son.

Just take proper precautions (wash hands, have her stay away if she has any open wounds or the baby does). Check with your pediatrician if you have any worries.

hmm.. i would be really worried too.. If the infection is gone i wouldnt think that she would still have it but i would ask a doc. just to be sure.. bc that would be extremely horrible if your baby got it..

If the infection is gone I would think she is fine. If you are really concerned about it, talk to your doctor and have your mom talk to hers. That should set your mind at ease.
