If a person gets a hysterectomy or vasectomy for birth control purposes only, is this against God's will?

Considering the fact that our body is a vessel and he also said replenish the earth?

as a slight detail... hysterectomy is not something that is done as a form of birth control.
the female equivalent of a vastectomy is having her tubes tied, or technically speaking, a tubal ligation.

theres a huge difference between the two.

I suggest that the crux is in the motive. If having your tubes tied is done for medical reasons that is one thing, but if it is done so that you can engage in sex at will, then the motive is lust. I think we all know where God stands on the issue of lust. Report It

I think it is about as much against God's will as using fertilization drugs in order to have a baby.

As far as replenishing the Earth...I think the rate of population growth shows that there is no lack of people having sex and procreating.

Bottom line, no, I don't happen to think it is against God's will to disconnect your plumbing to prevent having unwanted babies.

In general, a lot of the world's current problems are caused by too many people in the world: hunger and famine, poverty, environmental degradation of soils through the need for unsustainable farming, deforestation - even global warming caused by the carbon emissions we create!

(Do you think the world has been "replenished" with people yet?)

So in many ways, birth control is a positive in the current world..

But, for a Biblical (rather than secular) view, rewind to the world when the Bible was written... There were no such thing as male or female vasectomies!

Birth control simply didn't exist!

The closest example that exists is probably the story of Onan and Tamar... Tamar was married to Onan's brother.. When Tamar's husband (Onan's brother) died, God commanded Onan to get Tamar pregnant.

Onan agreed - but at the last minute he "pulled out"... which is where "thou shall not spill thy seed" comes from..

This is where a lot of religious teaching on the topics of birth control, masturbation and sexuality comes from...

But was it the fact that Onar "spilled his seed" the sin?

Or was it Onar's refusal of God's will?

Birth control is a biblical gray area... Religious teachers will tell you different things depending on what church they belong to, what their background is, what they personally believe, etc... But then again, religious teachers in Jesus' day had Jesus killed...

Are they to be trusted?

The only way you can be sure is to ask God yourself.
This will tell you God's will - of not his general will for all man kind, then for you personally.

Good luck!

I would think it is, typically, but I also think that the overall picture should be considered. We should love God more than we love sex. We should put God first and allow God to control and change our sex drives.

As the earth has been replenished, and you are not spilling your seed/egg, I would say no. But I don't believe in any of that garbage so, what do I know?

we can only follow temproary means of controlling the baby formation. not permenant methods of injuring our capability to fertilise.

The PENTANACH / BIBLOS ( BIBLE) states.. Be fruitful and multiply

YES.. ( IT IS ) AND YOU KNOW IT . WHY ASK? TO CONFIRM WHAT YOU ALREADY KNOW?

I AM THE GOD OF THE LIVING ( IN BIBLE)

According to the catholic church, yes.
