My mother has recently had a hysterectomy. She is eating alot, emotional, unhappy. She is on HRT. Why is this? |
She is on Hormone replacement therapy but she is still a total mess. I am very worried about her. Anyone have any clue as to whats going on? Please help. i have had a hysterectomy. i am not on HRT but i do understand a bit of what is going on with her. firstly. any kind of major surgery is an invasion on your body. sometimes a body goes into depression after the onslaught it has been through. her hormone counts may not be quite right yet, soemtimes it takes a while for the levels to be right. as far as the eating goes, it is probably a comfort thing related to the depression. can you make an appt for her to go to the dr and you go with her telling the dr what is concerning you? your mum may not realise just how she is behaving or that she is even depressed. soem women go into depression becuase they feel that they are no longer women anymore, their child bearing days are over and a hysterectomy sometimes makes women feel that they are getting old. encourage her to eat the right things when she does eat. try and get her to the dr. see if you can do something or go somewhere with her toget her out of the house. after a hysterectomy you do get housebound for a while and even going to the mailbox can be painful. try and get her back into a normal routine as soon as you can bearing in mind that she still has lots of recovering to do. she could be exerpiencing menopause. not all women do straigth after their hysterectomy. if the dr left your mums ovaries in then she is not necessarily going through menopause. i still have my ovaries and the dr said i will still experience menopause but not until my ovaries have ceased to function. just tell her that you love her and keep encouraging her. The same thing happened with my mom, she's going through menopause. Once you have a hysterectomy, it's automatic. |
