WOMEN ONLY! If u've had a hysterectomy..how did u feel?

Im now 26 at 20 i had my son..didnt want anymore children so 2mnths before my 22nd bday i had a tubiligation..didnt bother me, i was fine being able to not have kids anymore. Then at 23 i got Fibromyalgia ( a chronic pain condition) because of it my menstrals hospitalized me every month so after a yr of medication failures, my last option was a hysterectomy. i was fine with the procedure..but when i woke up n a nurse asked me how i felt, i cried out " i don't feel whole anymore." and i dont...yrs later im still bothered by the fact that even tho i had my tubes tied, a big part of my feminity was forced outta me by lack of othr options. if uve had a hystorectomy..how did u feel? i still have my cervix n eggs. Even sex is different..will this feeling of not feeling whole ever go away?

I was 30 when I had to have a hysterectomy. If I'm understanding you correctly, you've didn't have your ovaries removed so you should have no problem with hormone levels; however, you may want to have your doc test your hormones.

There shouldn't be any reason why you are not feeling whole. You are whole; some things you didn't need anymore are gone. Since you had a voluntary tubal, your uterus would not have been used anymore--except for menstrual periods which were giving you trouble anyway. I have lupus so I understand the pain of Fibromyalgia which could be making you somewhat depressed.

How we "feel as women" after hysterectomies is also a little bit of a "head thing" and we CANNOT listen to other women and old wives tales about "not being women anymore." YES, we are still 100% woman. If necessary, get some counseling from a really good female counselor. Start doing things for you that make you feel more feminine.

Remember it takes about a year for the body to fully recover from major surgery...

Again, I had mine at 30. I'm nearly 56 and I have felt GREAT since the first week I returned home from the hospital. As sore as I was I remember how I felt.

God bless you.
