How long does it take for a hysterectomy scar to disappear? |
I had a complete hysterectomy a year ago. As a result, I have a six-inch vertical scar on my lower abdomen. The last time my surgeon saw me, six weeks after the surgery, she said I was healing vey well and she thought the scar would eventually disappear. It is much lighter now than it was then, but still quite noticable. How long will it take for it to disappear? Matthew, make a tattoo with it? Lol!!! :) Guess I could use the scar as a flower stem and my navel as the center of a daisy!!! it will never disappear. it will fade, lighten and be much less visible, but it will never disappear. i am surprised she told you it would. scars can be further managed if they are unsightly by various cosmetic procedures. you could try a product like mederma, but it is probably a little beyond where that product is most effective. try to learn to appreciate your scar as a part of you. It will fade, but never disappear. As a last resort, if it really bothers you, you can consider a tattoo... Mind ya, its not an option I'd recommend. about a year for it to fade but it wont dissapear... It might not ever completely go away. My Mom had one 20 years ago and she still has a very noticeable scar. Of cource surgical procedures has came a long way and incisions are smaller now =). It will NEVER completely disappear. |
