Women that have had partial hysterectomies....any advice? |
I am finally scheduled for surgery. The ablation and other techiniques are not an option.....so I have come to terms with it so far. What advice do you wish you would have had before having this surgery? I think if your in such a state that partial hysterectomy is your only option, as was mine, that you will be relieved and happy when you have relief of your problems! I sure was! I wasn't however prepared for the emotional aspect that came a day or two later, eventhough I knew we weren't having any more children anyway it was still a little emotional to fully grasp the fact that I could never become pregnant again. It didn't last long, just more of a brief mourning and acceptance thing I guess. Also, I thought since I kept my ovaries that I wouldn't have any hormonal issues and you may not, however, I did do a couple of months of hormone replacement therapy because I had hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, and breast tenderness right afterwards. I also had a vaginal hysterectomy and didn't have to be cut open, so to speak, my pain was very minimal and my recovery was quite fast! Hope this helps and good luck! |
