Should I have a hysterectomy or not? |
I am 31 years old and have been battling with PCOS. I have had Laperscopic surgery, I am currently on Metformin and Zoloft and now my cholestrol levels are high. My concern is I am 31, I don't want to battle all these other illnesses due to this disease. Will having a hysterectomy help? I am desperate for answers. I guess I forgot to add that I do have three children of my own so having children is not a concern, I am content with three. Also the Laperscopic surgery was exploritory to find out what was causing the irregular bleeding and pain. Having a hysterectomy isn't going to cure your PCOS. You don't say what type of surgery it is you had... what exactly did they do? A total hysterectomy with bilateral oopherctomy is curative (actually a bilateral oopherctomy is all that's needed, but why not get rid of the cancerous uterus while you're at it). Hi, I know that being male probably isnt the best comfort for you to hear an answer from. However, My mother was put in the same position before my sister and I were born. She was told by the doctor to have kids as fast as possible because of PCOS, because eventually you won't be able to if the disease progresses. I also work in the health care field now, and I can't give you a straight answer yes or no, but I can say that if you really care about having a child if you haven't already done so, then go for it if thats what you want to do. If you've already had children and are content with that, or don't want to have any children they go for the hysterectomy! You need to take care of yourself and not have to worry about diseases, or other complications. And god forbid, you cant have children because of that nasty disease, adoption is always an option... You can find someone out there who truly needs someone like you! And as far as a hysterectomy making you less of a woman...BLAH. to that statement! go to your doctor and let he or she know about your concerns. they will see whether you are a good candidate for a hysterectomy or if there's another alternative. whatever they come up with, they will let you know the pros and cons and then the decision is yours to make. |
