I have to have a Hysterectomy? |
is there anyone who has had one able to tell me how i am likely to feel afterwards? Sorry I forgot to mention it is a full hysterectomy i have to have, i.e removal of my ovaries, womb and cervix. My Gynae has told me the hysterectomy will be performed through an incision in my lower abdomen. I had a c-section with one of my children, will it be as painful as that??!!! I had to also, at the same age. You will be sore and the 1st few days are hard to get around...but I made myself get up the 1st day, to use the restroom, yes I was sore but my doctor said that was the best. I stayed in the hospital 3 days. When I got home I rested a few more days...then before I knew it, I felt really darn good!!! U should not run and do anything that entails lifting...bending etc. for 4 to 6 weeks to be safe. But you can have normal play with your children, just make sure they know mommy has to be careful. I know it is scary...but when it is over and you feel better than you have in a long time, you will be happy. My doctor even showed a video to me, so I knew what would be happening in surgery and how I would feel after and many Q were asked and answered. Never be afraid to talk to your doctor..no Q is stupid..they are there to listen..and help you. So take good care of yourself..hope to hear how you are later on maybe in October. I had to have one about 4 years ago, the did a vag hystorectomy which means i only have 3 tiny scars on my lower stomach. I was sore for about 1 to 2 weeks after. I was also 35 when i had mine. I wasn't as sore as I was when they did my c-section. don't know if you ever had one of them or not. as far as how long before you can run around after your kids, I have 4 (ages 7,5,18months,18 months at time of surgery) I was lucky to have help, but I was back to somewhat normal within about 3 to 4 weeks. I hope this helps You are young to have a hysterectomy. I am sorry to hear that! My mom just had one in April. She couldn't drive for two weeks, and was out of work for six weeks. The doctor said a small amount of walking around the house was all she should do for the first several days. He also told her it could take up to 9 months to feel totally back to normal. So at least your kids sound old enough to try and fend for themselves if they have to. And maybe since you are still young it won't take you as long to recover. I hope all goes well with it! well for 1 thing, you wont get preganat, and they probably will put you on hormone pills to keep you from going through the change too early. my girlfriend is 38 and she had that done and her dr. put her on (premarin), to keep her from having hot flashes and so she wont go through the change too early. |
