Hysterectomy?????????????????

Hello there,
I need to know a few things about hysterectomy..........
I need to stop my periods and if I got hysterectomy what kind of hormones will I have to take??
And will I have to take them forever?

Hysterectomy=removal of the uterus. Since it's the uterus that bleeds, you won't bleed anymore after you have it removed. It may also affect sexual response since the uterus is involved in that. it may also cause you to go into premature menopause.

In some cases, a hysterectomy also involves the removal of the ovaries, which make the female sex hormones and regulate your cycles. Docs often call hysterectomy with ovary removal simply "hysterectomy," so it's important to distinguish what you want, and what they're going to do. Women tend to have more problems with removal of ovaries than with removal of uterus. Without the hormones the ovaries produce, sexual response is usually killed--it's the female equivalent of castration. It also affects your mood, and many other bodily processes, since the ovarian hormones control over 200 different bodily functions in addition to reproduction. It also shortens lifespan, and you get very nasty side effects of surgical menopause. You can take artificial hormones to help to combat these problems, but they might not be right for you, or cause other problems. No artificial hormones can be as good as your own body's hormones. You would have to take those hormones till about age 50, the average age of natural menopause. Then you might want to stop, as certain risks go up if you continue after that age. You might think that a hysterectomy will solve a problem, but it could create new problems.

Ever since my mother got a hysterectomy she has never been the same.
