What to expect after a hysterectomy?

Can anyone tell me what the first few weeks will be like? I have a 2 and 4 year old and will only have someone to help me for the first 2 days, then I'm on my own. What chores, etc did you find difficult? Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated!

well, you may be in the hospital for a few days at least. if your lucky, you'll get out in 2, depending on your doctor and insurance.
you won't be able to do any chores during the first two weeks. maybe even up to six, depending on how fast you heal. after the doctor gives approval, you can probably sweep and dust but no laundry or vacuuming. and no heavy lifting for a while. believe me you won't want too anyways.
and also no stairs. just fyi, if you are having a total hysterectomy, ovaries and all, ask your doctor to start you on some kind of replacement therapy before you leave the hospital. you will start "the change' immediately! good luck

All surgeries take a little while to recover from. You may want to try to get somebody to help you with the kids for at least a week. Any bending and lifting is going to be hard at first. Things such as laundry, and cleaning bath tubs, lifting children will be a bit painful. On the plus side, you won't have to buy tampons anymore.
