Why did Jade Goodys' hysterectomy take eight hours?

I had a radical hysterectomy, and I know I was out of it, but it didn't last that long

A radical hysterectomy means they have to take the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries out. Also if the cancer had spread outside the womb there would be minute dissection of lymph glands to do and that is fiddly work plus these glands have to be collected and labelled to go for testing to make sure they are not involved. There are a lot of blood vessels to deal with too.

Anyone making nasty remarks about this should retract them. No-one would wish a serious illness on anyone, let alone the mother of two children.

I do not particularly like her, her behaviour or her mother, but I do sympathise and wish her well

My mum had a hysterectomy(not due to cancer though) She was in surgery for nearly 10 hours! We were waiting and thought something had gone wrong. They said because she had a large womb that's why it took longer and also during it she had complications during it. That was about 6 years ago. So I suppose it just depends on what your body is like and what happens during surgery.

because of the cancer and there may have been problems with bleeding etc. i cannot believe so many peope here are being horrible it does not matter if you dislike her or not this is a human being with severe cancer we are talking about here. she may have been annoying as a celebrity but she should still deserve our best wishes for a recovery. it wouldnt be that if it was a member of your own family would it?

The anaesthetist probably decided to keep her under for a while so he wouldn't have to listen to her vacuous yapping.

Quite possibly because she has cancer as well - they would want to make sure they did the operation properly, so she has the best chance of a recovery.

Because they had to remove all that dried up sh*t that woman has been accumulating over the years. She is a horrible person.

Different procedures can vary also she is a big girl.

Because she is a well mannered and greatly respected international television star?
Maybe not.

i think dom is spot on.

idk.

good question :)
