Does having a hysterectomy cause weight gain? |
I'm 36yrs old and I had a hysterctomy 7 yrs ago. Since then I've gained about 40-50 lbs. I've gone from a size 3 to a size 14. As a teen til about 26yrs old I weighed 98 lbs. During all three of my pregnacies my start weight was 98 and by delivery i was 122lbs. My weight dropped complete down to 98-100 lbs 2 weeks after I had my babies. I had my hysterectomy at the age of 29. Before my hysterectomy I weighed 115 lbs and now I'm like 150 lbs at the age of 36. Is the fact that I had a hysterectomy have anything to do with my weight gain?? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you. I gained about 30 pounds in a year after mine at age 46 and its about 50 now 13 years later. From what I understand, the loss of estrogen in a woman's body, causes her to lose her protection from gaining weight in her stomach. When we are fertile, we have a tendancy to not gain stomach weight, but do after losing estrogen. I have back problems so have about given up, but you should be able to get on a low calorie diet and exercise and maybe lose some of it. |
