Hysterectomy . . . . .?

I'm 22 and have endometriosis really bad. I'm in major pain most of the time. I haven't been to the doctor for it yet but I've been thinking about what I want to do about it. My mom had it really bad too and just had a hysterectomy because of it. I honestly have no desire to have children and don't have any reason to keep going through this all the time. I've been thinking about having one, too. I know what some of you are gonna say;
"Don't do it now. You'll change your mind about having children someday and you'll regret it later."
I really don't. I've always wanted to adopt kids and that's a dream of mine.
My problem is what if I meet THE guy I want to be with and he want nothing more than to have his own kids? Is it worth it? I want so bad to just get it all over with but that's on my mind a lot. What do you think?

I know it's permanent. And I know there are other treatments. I just figured why have to do this every month if I'm not gonna have kids and there's really no other reason for it?

22 is old enough to make your own decisions. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Getting a hysterectomy does not mean you can't have children. If you meet THE guy and he wants kids of his own, there is always surrogacy.

Obviously this is something you should think really hard about, and I think it would be a good idea to speak with a psychologist. But it's your choice to make.

My sister actually considered having a hysterectomy for no reason at all! She decided against it because of the surgery risks and recovery time, but someday soon she might go for it. She's 27, and has known FOREVER that she has absolutely no desire for children.

Good luck!

Gee Jay, that is such a personal issue we here at YA are going to have a hard time giving you any true advice.
My comment would be to wait until you are 25. Hopefully you will have found that special someone. If they are good about adopting instead of your own then you can go through the procedure.
Best of luck with your decision.

Go to the Dr. There are other treatments available instead of a hysterectomy. A hysterectomy is permanent.

i wouldnt do it if i was you because of wat u thort loads of people would say. . . n ur rite lol

My mom had it done after i was born there is alot more to it than just getting it done you have to consider the hormones in your body will mostly be gone.So you will probably have to take Hormones to replace the one your body is not making now.When you get older your body will make more hair<facial ext> due to less female hormones.And from the few people i do know that has had it done after the surgery is done it is very painful for sometime.But if you are in that much pain and endometriosis leads to cancer if im not mistaken,And are sure you don't want kids.I would do it for your own Health in the long run you might be better off.If you find Mr Right and he don't understand then he is not the guy for you anyways..This is something to do for yourself and no one else.I would talk to your Doc and find out if they thank that is best for your body..Hope u the best..
