My doctor wants to do a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy on me! Is this type of hysterectomy -?

major surgery? please answer!

I work in surgery, and I happen to assist in these cases all the time. This is a very routine procedure, and generally very safe. I have probably assisted in about 50 cases in the past 8 months, and I have not seen even one complication. It is considered a major surgery , but the fact that it is laproscopic, makes it a lot easier for your body to heal. The only difference between this and a TAH (total abdominal hysterectomy, is that the cervix is not removed.

Well it's not minor surgery...

All in all I'd say it's right in the middle between the extremes of a heart transplant and having a mole removed...

It's pretty simple in theory. Snip the little bugger out, sew everything up and you're on your way. But then again the uterus is a highly vascular organ.

Your worries should be discussed with your surgeon though, he should most certainly know more about it than anybody on here.

yes..
