My mother just had a hysterectomy today, how long will she be in pain? Well, the pain should gradually subside within the week. I hope they gave her sufficient pain medication. The entire healing process takes about 6 weeks in which she should not lift anything heavy, like full laundry baskets, groceries and such. Spoil her by doing these things for her. Going for short walks will help followed by rest. But she should definitely go by her doctors instructions because I don't know her. My mom had a hysterectomy, too, a year ago. Tell her to get a lot of rest; if she works to take a few days off. You'll need to make all the meals for her, and get her anything she needs as she will be in pain for a couple weeks.
