I have been told I have HPV. I don't have warts though. Why? Should I have a hysterectomy?

HPV is very common (80% of females have it). No you don't need a hysterectomy. It can go away itself. You just need to get checked out to make sure that the HPV doesn't cause cervical cancer. The warts are on the inside, they are white growths around the cervix
Your doctor will have the best advice for you. Remember, although some strains of HPV cause cancer, not all do. If you don't have cancerous cells, you're okay for now, at least. Just ask your doctor if there are any preventative measures you could take, and continue to have regular paps so that they can detect any problems as early as possible.
Isn't this something you should be asking your ob/gyn. Why would you need a hysterectomy? Some strains of HPV do not show outward signs of warts. You are at an increased risk for cervical cancer because of the HPV diagnosis. However, if you work with you ob/gyn and diligently monitor your condition through pap smears the pre-cancerous cells can be dealt with before developing into cancer.

Cervical cancer is highly preventable.
Many people are unsymptomatic carriers of HPV. Although you can still pass it on to a partner. The decision to get a hysterectomy is one that should be made with you doctor.
HPV is the virus that can cause cervical cancer, but not always. You should get regular pap smears, and keep a check on it.
Also, there is a type of hpv that don't cause genital herpes, you won't even know you have it unless a dr. tells you. It doesn't mean you need a hysterectomy.
HPV is also known as human papillomavirus. It can cause genital warts that can be seen and some that can not. In some cases there are no warts.

You need to find out from your doctor exactly what type of HPV you have because there can be complications if left untreated and there are over a hundred types.
