Does having a hysterectomy cause you to put on extra weight?

I had a hyserectomy last November and asked my Dr. if I would put on extra weight because of it. she said that was not true. I have been putting on alot of weight since then. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had a total hysterectomy as well due to breast cancer (just trying to keep ahead of the cancer) I'm not on any hormones. I have gained about 20 lbs since that time...mostly in abdomen. My surgery was about a year ago also.
I had a partial hystorectomy 3.5 years ago and have put on weight. I am also on some medications that cause weight gain as well. But that is when it all started. Hope this helps.
A hysterectomy is involves removing your uterus and may also include the removal of your ovaries, fallopian tubes and/or cervix. This procedure will provide permanent relief from the pain of endometriosis, but will cause you to be completely infertile. Hysterectomy is only used in the most severe cases of endometriosis.

You can gain weight from the surgery because your body is no longer producing sex hormones. If you are taking synthetic hormone replacements they can also cause weight gain. You can ask your doctor about bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. It is safer than synthetic and I have not heard of it causing weight gain.
