I had a total hysterectomy, do I really need to take hormones?

I'm guessing you just didn't like the doctor's response when he told you that you needed to take hormones, and that's why you're asking this? Why in the world would you take the word of random people on Y/A over a doctor who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical school? Doesn't make sense to me!
YES you need to do as your doctor says - you're missing body parts completely, how does that make any sense to you that you wouldn't need to take hormones?
Sure, nobody WANTS to deal with the potential side effects, but when you choose to have a surgery like this you have to do what's right for your body.
it depends on you and how your body reacts to the hysterectomy. i had one done in 1986 and only took hormone pills for 6 months.my dr. doesn't think i need them.
I am not sure about this, I would get a second opinion, because basically the hormones are not produced by the Uterus, but by the ovaries, so if the ovaries are still there, why would you need to take hormones. Unless there is something wrong with the hormone production in your body?? It doesn't hurt to get a second opinion, and doctors are only human you know, they can make mistakes and we should not take their word as if they were the words of God, just because they operated on us or spent so much money on their education!!!!
My aunt never did and she never had any problems.
perhaps you didn't choose to get the hysterectomy, for the one answerer?I made up a new word,I was just thinking when I saw your question the same thing.why do people seek serious medical advice on here?IDK,my experience was at 44 y/o,partial hysterectomy and was given hormones,go figure, took them about 8 months.follow your doctor's advice and do your own research.
I had a radical hysterectomy... started on Premarin...wasn't happy...did a lot of research on bio identical hormones..started them about 2 months ago and feel great. And yes, I posted questions here just to get feed back...I know that you have sense enough to ask your dr...you're probably just wanting to find out your possibilities and get new ideas...People need to relax here...

Some people do not take hormones. I thought I was going to die with out them...depression, hot flashes, night sweats, ets were the worse...maybe you'll be lucky and not need them...but if you do...look into bio-identical ones...
