What is sex like after having a hysterectomy? Will I lose my sex drive?

Hormone replacement is it bad or good? I am considering this operation but am VERY scared

1. I will end up like nut job like my mother
2. Have no sex drive
3. Wont be able to climax
4. Get hairy and gain weight.

Please tell me all of your personal experiences and problems and bonuses... thanks ladies for all your help

I have had a hysterectomy and there is not a problem with the drive. In fact I think that mine increased since I didn't have to worry about anything. I still have my ovaries but sometimes you may have to use a product for "dryness". I tried the hormones but they didn't seem to help me and I felt a whole lot more emotional while taking them. Didn't get hairy, did put on some weight but that was due to divorce and the fact that I like food. If you take care of yourself and workout this shouldn't be a problem. Best decision I ever made.
yawn...who cares....
Well, I don't know about number 1 or 4 , but, one of my previous GFs had a hysterectomy and I asure you that number 2 and 3 were no problem. I do not know the extent of her surgery (IE if ovaries were taken or not) or what type of hormone replacement therapy she may or may not have been on. Good luck.
JaimeG~ go suck an egg.

I have had one, everything removed. I can swear to you that I am no nutjob,my dh may tell you otherwise lol. My sex drive isnt what it used to be.My orgasms have never been stronger(best part),I am not hairy, and I have not gained much weight(I cant say I havent gained weight, cuz what woman doesnt?)

I was on hormones(premarin) but I just stopped taking them a few months ago and have started OTC meds for hot flashes and such. So far so good.

I am no longer in daily pain and you cant beat that!!!!
If you have a hysterectomy, and your ovaries are left in place, then life should continue as normal, except without a period. I have a friend who is 32, that had this done, and her sex life was unchanged, and she successfully lost weight.

If your ovaries are removed, then you might have something to worry about. My mom had a full hysterectomy, and used hormone replacement therapy, and things seemed to go ok for her.

In either case, you should discuss all concerns and options with your doctor.

I had a hysterectomy back in April. My drive was never that great as it was...I blame that on being past my 'prime', but it isn't much different now than it was before.

Not a nutjob. I haven't grown hair in places I shouldn't grow hair either (I did grow hair when I was on BCP's). I am on HRT patch, it helps to control the symptoms.
