Has anyone else kept their cervix with a hysterectomy and do you still have monthly spotting? |
I kept mine by doctor recommendation. However, I still have a "period" every month. It lasts about one day and it's basically spotting, sometimes less, sometimes more. I'm just wondering if there's anyone else out there with the same problem. I think it might be rare. Normal....I think a hysterectomy is removal of one or both of the ovaries...a removal of ovaries and cervix is (I think) called an oophalectomy (sp?).....If you still retain the cervix, occasional spotting is normal.... From the facts you provided, I am not so sure if : 1. that is a real hysterectomy, because when we do that procedure, definitely everything is removed and only the cervical stump is left behind. Remember, the cells that are sloughed off during menses came from the linings of your uterus. 2. Sometimes but not all, cases of bleeding are encountered for patients with ectopic location of glands within your pelvic region, but that is very rare. 3. Follow -up with your gynecologist for re-evaluation. Is that like true menses, or blood clots from the operation(if recently). 4. What was the indication of its removal? This also matters especially for cancer patients that may recur. I am limitted with few informations, hence, I cannot really and actually assess why. |
