Have you had a hysterectomy ? |
I am 30 and facing an early hysterectomy due to endometriosis and polycystic ovarian disease what has been your expierience after hysterectomy and which hormone therepy has worked for you and which caused you problems. I have allready looked at medical sites but I'd also like to hear stories from woman who have gone through it as well I had a hysterectomy at age 36, almost 20 years ago now. Best gift I ever gave myself. I have never taken hormone therepy and do not intend to. Decided I didn't want to take hormone thereapy unless I really felt, I FELT, not my Dr. felt, that I really needed it. At times I have had hot flashes, and at times I might not have been the easiest to get along with, but over all it wasn't any more so then with monthly cycle, I just decided that I could deal with it. Decided as a woman I had a high risk for cancer anyway and just didn't want to add to it with hormone therepy. Good luck, and I think you will be surprised at how much better you will feel after you have recovered from the surgery itself. I can't answer this with personal experience but I would suggest really researching having a hyst due to endo. There really is no cure for endo-not even a hyst. If you have a hyst, whether it's parital or complete, if there is any amount of endo anywhere else in your body-even the tiniest bit, the endo can grow back. Endo does not need your reproductive organs for it to grow. I'm not sure about POD though. Take a look at obgyn.net and go to the endo zone-you can find great infor there and even read through the archives and look at the women's stories who have had a hyst to try to cure endo. Also google Dr David Redwine-great endo specialist. I don't mean to be negative, it's just that many women get hysts b/c they are told that is the only thing left, but many women find that their pain returns-even though for some it may take a few years. Good luck! I had a full hysterectomy at just over 27 years old. I had endometreosis, chronic PID, ovarian cysts and cervical cancer. I went into full on menopause straight away. That really sucked as hot flushes are the worst. And the mood swings and depression. But HRT helped sssoooo much. I was on Premarin. It didn't cause me any problems just fixed them. But it was the best thing I ever did. Being pain free was a total blessing. But it came at a price. All my friends are having children and I have one beautiful baby boy (He's 12 but still my baby. He will have a fit I told you that!) And would love more. But instead I have a bit of a cry and enjoy 'kidnapping' my two neices. And giving them back to their mother at the end of the day when they are moody! But I still am glad I did it. I could't keep on putting myself through that pain every month. I am happy to answer any further questions you may have. It's a massive discion (sp) so take your time with it and discuss it with all your family and friends. they will be there when you need them. Good luck darl. i am now going to be 36. i had my hysterectomy at the age of 20 due to ovarian cysts and a massive scar tissue.i was first put on the estrogen patch which could cause skin irritation at the site.i tried that for about a year then i just went cold turkey. i still get some hot flashes and night sweats. but i do feel blessed when i hear my girlfriends complain they have there periods. I had my surgery at age 34 and I did not know how bad I had felt until I got over the surgery and felt so good then. Just think from then on you won't have to worry over those monthly times, you won't have to worry on vacations about starting your periods, you won't have to worry when you go out about leaking thru on your clothes if you want to dance the night away or whatever....its a whole new world. And it won't affect your sex life at all! It actually relieves you from unexpected pregnancies. I didn't take hormones for several years but every now & then I may take a shot..but NO more. After the last one I had really bad edema that I blame on it. My gyn doesn't like them but each person has to discuss the benefits vs concerns on a one to one case with their doctor. So look on the positive side since its something you have to have....Good health for you personal experience |
