Manx with incontinence issues.?

I have a 9yr old Manx that has had bowel and bladder leakage all her life. As she gets older, the urinary leakage is becoming worse. Daily bathing is necessary to prevent skin breakdown. The vet is currently dosing her with Bethanechol 5mg twice daily. Other meds have also been tried to quell the bladder spasms. She has occasional UTI's that are treated promptly. I would appreciate information from other's with Manx companions. I know not all Manx have these problems, but it also isn't an unknown trait.
Thank you

tough, tough stuff. The Bethanecol is the best thing. Is she on a Urinay health food? There are quiet a few and I know Hill's makes a great one. Most of the people I know with cats who have urinary issues this bad, make them outdoor or barn cats. I am amazed and terribly impressed at your commitment to your pet! I would also look into some of the products at:
http://www.animalsnaturallyonline.com as I have heard many, many success stories from clients who use their products.

My Manx hasn't had those problems thankfully. But she has had arthritis for a long time. Now that she is 15 it is getting quite a lot worse. I am giving her a couple of things for that and she hasn't had an attack for a while now. This probably doesn't help too much with your problem but I just had to tell you how much I love the Manx breed. Funny thing is, she is the first cat I had. After her I think all the others look funny with their long tails.

I had a half-manx (mother was a manx) that had some urinary problems as he got older... he lived to about 11 when he kept losing control of himself and I had to put him down... we now have 2 manx (brothers) that don't have any urinary problems, but occasionally they have loose bowels and we have to clean them up (this is a 2 person job, since they don't care for this!) so one holds while the other person cleans... these are longer haired cats, and occasionally we have to trim around their butts to get them clean... which is also a 2 person job!
My first cat (the half-manx) had longer back legs than normal, his sister was a full manx and looked more like a rabbit! The 2 we have now have normal back legs... my sister in law told me to pick ones that had at least a nubbin tail, that they seem to do better than the ones with no tail at all...
