4 mo old Husky Mix Male incontinence! Help!? |
I have a 4 month old male husky mix puppy that was adopted, and we are experiencing some incontinence problems. He was neutered at the shelter just before I brought him home, he was 3 months at the time, which I thought was a little young. He has never squatted to pee, he sometimes just stands there, other times he will be running around playing while peeing. He gives no indication such as sniffing or the usual "I gotta go" signs. He has also wet on his toys and our shoes. Before you say, "take him to the vet" we are going to but I would like some different opinions before we go! Why is he doing this, could it be that something was damaged durning the operation, or something else? What might be our treatment options? Sadly, one of the things that is rarely mentioned is the fact that early spay/neuter can cause incontinence. it is definatly the right thing to go to the vet. something is definatly wrong but it could be a number of things. I'm not a vet but i don't think it would have to do with the surgery as they only deal with the testicles, which has nothing to do with peeing. hopefully it is as simple as a urinary tract infection and that can be cleared up with antibiotics. it could also have to do with weak muscles or something of the sort. even if it is not uti, most causes of incontinence can be kept under control with meds, so don't worry! good luck and have fun with your new pup!! Incontience is a common problem following a spay/neuter. Sometimes it gets better with time - sometimes not. There are some herbal pills at the pet stores that are supposed to help strengthen their bladders that you can try but I think having the vet run some tests is prob the best option to rule out any serious medical conditions. Temporary incontinence following sterilization is much more common in females than males. Sounds like "regular" incontinence. The vet can tell you for sure and prescribe drugs for the problem. It could be excitability or there could be a problem. Without seeing the dog or asking a lot more questions, it's just conjecture on our part. The vet visit will answer the question. i have a husky and when we started noticing her walking and peeing we took her in and it was a UTI! so you might want to atleast call your vet and talk to them and see what they think b/c i call my vet for anything lol. |
