What causes fecal incontinence in dogs?

My dog will jump up and run to the door, but the poop will already be dropping! It's not diarrhea - it's the normal semi-hard dog poop that he's always produced. He also has urinary incontinence but he's had that for a while and has been on Proin to control it. But the fecal incontinence just started yesterday. It's really gross! He's an Akita/German Shepherd mix and is 9 years old. Obviously I will take him to the vet this week but I thought I'd see what people thought in the meantime....

I've never experienced it with my dogs, but here's a website that might help you out, and a quote from the site:

It can be some degree of nerve damage that causes this.

Seeing the vet would be a great idea.

My neighbor's dog had similar problems and it was a result of having a bad case of worms, so that's one possibility.
