Best option for dog diapers/incontinence? |
My dog is a 13 year old english springer spaniel. He is leaking urine through the house. This mostly occurs when he is sleeping. We put down blankets for him to sleep on that we can wash. But the urine smell is getting unbarable. The vet said there is not much we can do after thoroughly checking into it. We don't want to put him down. I'd like to try dog diapers but I need a kind that aren't really expensive and dont fall right off. I'd prefer something I could stick a maxi pad or bladder pad for humans in. What have you all tried? What is the best? Actually, little boys training underwear work great. Put them on backwards, so the tail fits through the fly front. Insert human pads as necessary. My older dog has the same problem and she takes Proin, purchased from the vet. She only requires one pill a day and seldom has leakage. You must give the pill daily,( I give it to her each morning before her meal) because if you forget, she will leak. Some dogs need to take 2 pills a day, I have found that my dog does well on one and got a little antsy on 2 pills. Give the least amount that works. It is prescribed by weight. Look up Drs. Foster & Smith online and they have doggie incontinence diapers made especially for male dogs that have that problem and they also have female diapers for incontinence or females in season. why not just make a belly band for him? i have one for my yorkie that i just put pads with wings on. it works great! all you have to do is measure your dogs belly width and get some material and cut it to fit! cheap and easy to make!:) |
