Canine incontinence?

I have a 6 year old Black Lab who recently has starting drinking excessively and peeing excessively. He seems to be ok during the day but always overnight he pees on the floor. It's clear, no smell and sticky. I'm thinking renal failure, diabetes or kidney problems. Does anybody have suggestions as to what I can do to keep him dry until morning. I've even put those large size diapers on him, but there not too effective because he wiggles out of them. I am frustrated because the first thing everyday I have to mop the floor. I have hardwood and I'm not sure how it's going to stand up the the constant scrubbing. PLease help if you have any suggestions.

Polyuria/Polydipsia or PU/PD is a symptom of some very bad things, as you know - and I'm sure you're going to have the vet look into this.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, go to the nearest Petco and look at belly bands, which are in the same section as the pooper scoopers. If you sew, you will notice how easdy it would to be to make them -

All they are is a band about 10" wide and long enough to go around your dog's waist, with elastic gathered on the long edges and velcro on the short ends - all you do is put a maxi pad inside, and make sure it's in the right place when you put it on...

THey sell for about 15-20$ each already made up, and are sold under the brand Simple Solution, among others.

I have yet to see any dog bothered by one of these.

Hope he's OK...

Firstly see your vet to figure out what is going on, and hopefully he will be able to sort out a treatment for your poor dog.

Secondly, cover the floor at night with plastic sheeting and newspapers on top, to protect the hardwood underneath and make it easy to clean up in the morning - and don't be hard on your poor lab - he won't be doing this on purpose. Diapers are a terrible idea - they will upset your dog more than he already is by having to soil himself in the house.

You really need to go to the vet. They will most likely do bloodwork and a urinalysis. This problem doesn't seem like it is something that will stop on it's own. Until the problem is determined, there are dog specific diapers that might help and work a little better than regular diapers. You might also want to get some pee pads to put down in the area where he sleeps.

You need to take him to the vet! You will not find the help you need on Yahoo!
