What can cause my puppy to have incontinence? |
He's only an 8 pound dachshund and sometimes he will urinate more than seems physically possible. We are talking like 2 foot puddles in the kitchen floor. And this morning he urinated on the love seat arm rest then ran to the kitchen and did a whole lot more! I don't think this is normal, just wondering?... He is 9 months old and probably will not get much bigger, his parents were standard but he is just small. He probably drinks one bowl of water a day but sometimes I think he holds his pee for one big shabang! sounds strange are you sure its as large as that a puddle splayed out on a floor can look a lot more, maybe he drinks a lot and holds it he is just a puppy afterall, they are all 'incontinent 'and cant hold on. It sounds like your pup is not housebroken properly If there are large amounts of urine hes probably holding it in because he doesn't know where it is appropriate to urinate and he knows he'll get into trouble wherever he urinates. You need to toilet train him again, from scratch. You need to take your pup to the vet, he might have a UTI, and those cause bladder spasms just like in humans. Also, it could have something to do with his growth rate, at any rate, you need to take him to the vet to rule out any physical/medical issues, then you need to start crate training him. This really doesn't sound like incontinence. Take him to the vet for a check, you can never be too careful with puppies and your vet will not mind, even if there is nothing wrong. It is worth the visit as it may be a sign that his kidneys aren't filtering properly or something. How much water is he drinking?? An 8lb Doxie does not have that large of a bladder. But, if he's drinking alot -- water in , water out..... Not even a miniature dachshund weighs 8 lbs unless it's in a puppy stage, but when he gets to an adult he should weigh more than that, there must be something wrong with him, he needs to see a vet, it's not normal. Have you checked with a vet? If not than that might be a good option. |
