Can you claim DLA for incontinence?

I have severe IBS either chronic diarrhoea or chronic constipation, i also have weak bowel mussels which make me incontinent. Would i qualify for DLA.

DEPENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

But probably not!

DLA is awarded, not because of any illness you have, but rather on how much help you require because of it.

Therefore, you wouldn't qualify for having severe IBS, but you may qualify for the help you need, i.e. constant help with toilet needs in the day or night, help with personal care, e.g. washing etc, help with medication.

DLA comes in two bits, one for mobility, the higher rate is around 拢50 a week, lower rate around 拢18 a week and one for care, lower rate 拢18.65 per week, middle rate 拢47.05 per week and high rate 拢70.00+ a week. Low rate means you need help some time during the day. Middle rate means you need help at some times during the day and night. High rate means you need constant care during the day and at night.

The forms are a living nightmare and I would suggest you do this in stages so as not to forget anything. Add anything you have available to strengthen your case, i.e. photos of any modifications, injuries etc, prescription lists or any doctors reports etc etc.

Also, make sure you fill in it as if you are having a bad day. The DWP can often twist things around and at the end of the day, they don't live with your illness or realise how it affects you on a daily basis, so make sure you write down everything that you need help with.

Good luck.

DLA is available in 2 sections one is for daily living and the other part is the mobility section. I do not think you would qualify for the mobility component. Whether or not you qualify for the living component would depend on how much your problem affects your daily life. You need to get a form and fill it in and see. I would advise you ask for help to fill in the forms as they can be quite confusing.

No you wouldn't, if you can still breath they wont give you DLA, my friend who has breast cancer applied and was rejected. i and several people I know have IBS etc the same as you except for incontinent and we wouldn't consider applying for it, they would tell you to buy incontinent pads. My daughter has IBS and a bladder prolapse, egg allergy which makes eating very hard and she didn't get it, I am diabetic, under active thyroid, arthritis, etc I wouldn't get it - long time ago I did get it for stress but every year was sent for a DSS medical and if I had been an alcoholic or drug addict then I would have got it longer. There is too many cutbacks for you to get it

if all alternatives have been exhausted and it affects your quality of life, then i think you would qualify. go and see your doctor and get him to refer you to a specialist if he/ she hasn't done already. the dla phone number is 08457 123456. your condition should have affected you for more than three months.

They probably won't pay out - my friend had bowel cancer and since her operation when she needs the loo she needs it NOW but they won't let her have DLA and she's pretty much incontinent because of it. However, you won't know until you try.

Yes definitely. Go to citizens advice if you need help filling out forms, they are great!!

hiya, yes you are,so get the forms from P.O..or Citizen ad vice.they will fill them in for you.good luck.
