Cat incontinence problems? |
Hello, I have a 5 year old cat who is paralyzed in her back legs. she just drags her hind parts around. needless to say she does not use the box as she does not know when she is going potty. I have let her roam free and do her business wherever for years. i had to steam clean my carpet at least every month, and when i moved into my new place, i started putting her in diapers. i was thrilled they stayed on, but this caused another problem. she got a bacterial infection, got diarrhea, so i had her on antibodies and took her out of the diapers. ever since she has been out of the diapers, she has had poopy problems. she gets constipated then she gets diarrhea with some firm stool mixed in. she wont go for a couple of days, then when it does come out, its all juicy before the normal poo comes out. I have been on my hands and knees cleaning poop spots for two months now, i have spent so much money at the vet that i can not afford to take her anymore, and i feel horrible for causing all these problems, i am at the end of my rapidly fraying rope. i cook oven roasted chicken for her to eat, she does not seem to feel sick and eats and drinks a lot. Does anyone have any idea what i can do to get her regular again? What does the vet say about all of this? I have to say, in my opinion, her quality of life sounds less than pristine. I would speak to my vet and find out if she is in any way suffering....dragging her legs around, urinating and defecating so that she has to wear diapers...that sounds extreme. I love my animals and have done and spent alot for and on them...but there needs to come a time when you say you're keeping her in this position for you....and she's suffering because of it. I would speak to my vet and get his opinion on the situation, on her quality of life and what to expect as she gets older. The spinal damage will always give her problems in this department. Maybe the easiest thing to do would be to restrict her with baby gates to a few rooms w/out carpet or cover the carpet in layers of paper. First of all, I would strip the carpet out- You can have throw rugs and painted cement floors are all the rage now! I did this to my place and I was sooo happy! As for cold feet I got slippers and the paint for cement is cheaper than replacing carpet. If your committed to her- this will be easy- Also change her diet to raw- you have access to the Internet- look up the diet- also right now there is a question on home made cat food- you can get some ideas there- it may seem extreme- but its not- the cats do so much better. If you are like me, my cats are my babies- First, I hope you are feeding canned food instead of dry Try some acidoupholus in the food. That my help to setle things. It's available in health food stores You know most people would say I tried my best and let the cat go. Me personally I would shoot it to end the suffering but most people see that as violent. If something is suffering and you let it suffer is that not more cruel. |
