Infertility.............?

Maybe I'm a rare breed, I don't know but looking forward to finding out.....battled infertility (mine,,endo..) went through 6 surgeries, had tubs blown 5 times (hystersalipinogram) GIFT, IN VIVO........AI......u name it,,,then I went through a divorce and found my light. I'm really glad I didn't have kids now!?! Very rarely do I even think about it. I always thought I wanted kids but now I see them as something I'm glad I avoided. I'm happy to do my own thing and the thought of chasing kids around or driving them around all sounds just sooo confining, depressing to me. I do respect moms out there, indeed! Just glad I'm not one of them........am I awful?

You absolutely are not awful. You have the right to feel what you want, and it is better to realize this now before you did have a child and you found out it may not really have been for you. How awful that you went through so much trying to get pregnant though--treatment is not easy.

I have thought about it some...about not continuing anymore and maybe that is a defense mechanism for me because I am afraid that it won't happen. You sound vert confident in your decision. Good for you!!

Not at all. Not everyone is cut out to be a mother. Some people are just made for it and some are not. You cant define yourself by how many children you have produced. So carry on being a happy caring useful member of society and enjoy your life.

My fourth baby is on the way and I wouldn't change a thing but for a moment every rare now and then I think or how nice it would be to shower, or go potty, or make a late night pizza run, all by my self. Don't get me wrong I am very happy but I think there is something to be said for living your own life too! I'm sure if you would have had kids you would have been a great mom but yeah deciding at the last minute you want chinese instead of mashed peas is one of the small wonders of life!

No of course you're not awful. And those people who might intimate that you are, probably just wish they had their evenings free once in a while!!! I have several very close friends who have taken the decision, not lightly, to stay child-free. One of them brought the subject up again just the other day. She's a university professor at a top 10 college and she says that she's the 'intellectual mother' to hundreds of highly talented adults. She feels that this is a better contribution to the world than being a mother to one or two people. It's great -- she's very happy, and I'm glad that you are too. Good for you!!!
