Question on infertility??

i was diagnosed with ovarian cysts when i was younger, is there a possibility i am sterile? Also i was trying to get pregnant so i took myself off the pill for a year and still no pregnancy, if i were fertile how long would i have to be off the pill to become pregnant??

I was also diagnosed with ovarian cysts when I was 17 or 18. I have been trying to conceive now for 26 months, but my Dr. is not entirely sure if the cysts are to blame or just a combination of other things.

The best advice I can give you is to get checked out as soon as possible. A Dr. can monitor your ovaries and look for new cysts or changes that could indicate a problem. Generally, after someone under 35 has been trying to conceive for one year unsuccessfully, they can be seen by a Dr. to begin testing for infertility.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions yet, but since it's been a year, I'd say go ahead and make an appointment. Good luck!

The time it takes to get pregnant after stopping the pill varies from person to person. It's not unusal for some women to take over a year to conceive after stopping the pill.

My suggestion would be to go to the doctor and have everything checked out. If you had ovarian cysts in the past, you may still have them, and the doc may be able to determine why (hormonal imbalances are often culprits, etc.) Either way, especially if your periods are irregular, there may be something going on that is hindering your ability to ovulate...

Best of luck! It can happen!

If you have ovarian cysts, that does reduce fertility (probability of conceiving), but doesn't mean that you are infertile.

With proper meds (metformin if you have PCOS related cysts), fertility can be much improved as PCOS can be managed. Need to consult with doctor on diagnosis/treatment. The last option is fertility treatments which though expensive, give you a decent chance to conceive.

Good luck.
