Why don't those dumb doctors know that the depo shot can cause infertility?

I think depo is EVIL!! It puts our body into a chemical menopause. And then when a lady stops taking the shot, it can take years for the body to return to a "normal" state. Often times resutling in infertility. Im not one who likes foreign substances in my body (no im not catholic or a tree hugger), but I think those hormones they give us are awful. :( I mean if you have PCOS like you me you benefit from having regular periods, but it's still an unnatural chemical. But that depo shot is is just plain EVIL! Who out there thinks that depo is EVIL to?

It's a horrible thing. Every time the ligitimate scientific community comes out with a study proving that the Depo Provera shot has some pretty tragic long-term effects, the pharmaceutical companies come out with their own study "proving" that the other studies are wrong.

I myself received the Depo shot for a period of 1 year almost 6 years ago. I have not gotten a period since 2003, and despite not using any other birth control I have not conceived. This is a tragic thing.

UM ... i don't think it is evil but I've heard it can cause a lot of different side effects, infertility is one i have never heard before. But I'm someone who think the condom is the best form of birth control when used with the pill. I wouldn't use anything else.

I had a problem with the shot...withthe second one I got (only ever got 2) I had an allergic reaction...had to walk around with a rash for 3 months. We were ttc, and it took 18 months as the shot had stopped ovulation. Luckily it was restarted with clomid.

To begin with, I don't understand why women are ready to put any sort of artificial hormones (pills, depo shots etc) into their system!!!

There are so many other ways of avoiding pregnancy without putting ur body through the torture of side effects etc.

It is EVIL! I'm with you on this one!

they know they just dont wanna sacre the patients

I have 2 family members that are going through trying to get pregnant after depo and there doctors said it could take a year. I also have a family member that had no trouble conceiving her first (basically one month of trying) and then went on depo for 6 months and it took her 1 year to conceive after that. I don't think it causes true infertility but it can cause a delayed time in getting pregnant after using it. Most doctors for any medication don't sit down and go through every detail and side effect. When I got birth control pills for the first time I was instructed how to take them but not told the side effects. I am one that reads the insert that comes with prescriptions and about stroked out after reading the possible side effects. I called my doctor and she said those are very rare. I think doctors should go through all the side effects and definately the pharmacist should but they don't and are not required to as long as they give you the information on the medication. My doctor however does not prescribe the depo shot to her patients though. So I guess that is good. Doctors should step up but so should patients as well. It is basically your own responsibility to know what you are putting in your body. So read up and ask questions. You don't ask someone else if it is safe to cross the road. You look and then cross. So do the same when it comes to medications. And also the insert tells you in depth what the pills look like (color, size, markings). You should compare to make sure there was no error at the pharmacy as well before taking them. I wouldn't use the depo shot.
