Need information on infertility insurance - sperm and egg donations - for college paper...help?

I've been conducting online searches but am having a hard time coming up with any useful information. Specifically, I need the average cost of insemination using donor sperm (basically, the cost of registering and purchasing the actual sperm), and the average cost using a donor egg (the cost of the total procedure including drugs, doctors' appointments, donor compensation, and insemination). Answers from many states and cities are welcomed as I am looking for an average across the U.S. Also needed is any information on insurance coverage of these procedures. Do only some carriers cover it? None? Is there a special type of insurance one could purchase only to cover infertility?

I doubt that you will find cost information on the internet. I would look for fertility clinics that offer this service, pose as a client and call for prices, etc. As far as insurance, very few cover the costs of infertility. Some will cover hormone shots but most don't cover invitro, etc. Again, this is an individual insurance issue. Call some of the bigger insurance companies, ie Antem Blue Cross, United Healthcare, Health Net, Keiser Permanente, and ask. Some insurances offer specific 'riders' for services such as maternity, mental health, etc. but they must be purchased separately at an additional cost. Also, some insurances will cover maternity care once you are pregnant. As you have found out, this is a very complex subject.
