Smoking and infertility? |
We have been TTC for 13 mo. After trying to conceive for a few months with no luck I began smoking again (after quitting for about 2 years or more. stupid, I know) I started smoking again about 10 months ago. Not because of stress, but because everyone around me smokes, and I kind of "fell" back into it, thinking I could smoke socially only, but obviously couldn't. My husband always used nicotine products, but when I got pregnant before he was coincidentally only using chewing tobacco (eww). I think you will get pregnant when its time for you to. My wife and I had a similar issue with our first child. She begged me to quit smoking for a month solid after we had been trying to for almost a year. I quit, and she was preggers within a few months, but after he was born I started back up again (it just happens...) and very unexpectedly 1 year and 3 months later, she was preggo. It may have an effect on fertility, but there are larger activities that also play a part. Although at the very least not smoking will make it healthier for all involved. Ok, I'm not a doc but imo, this is just more propaganda by the cigarette nazis. I have had infertility problems while being a smoker, but I've also succeeded in having 3 big, healthy babies...again... while smoking. It's so easy to blame yourself when there are fertility troubles, but don't fall into that trap, hon. It's not your fault... perhaps if you quit though, you will find yourself spending your 'smoking time' having wild jungle sex instead, thereby leading to a baby! Best of luck to you! If you weren't smoking during the past 13 months, quitting smoking probably isn't going to improve your chances, although it is still smarter and healthier to quit than to continue. You need to identify why you and your husband felt the need to start again because stress can inhibit fertility. I have had a lot of friends who have had trouble concieving. It usually takes about year. But I will tell you one thing that may sound stupid. Relax! You have to stop stressing over it, take all the stresses out of your life. In every circumstance I know of getting pregnant happens when their stress levels are down. I seriously doubt that smoking is going keep you from getting pregnant. It can be a factor however it is usually weed not cigarettes that lessen your chances. hi i had no trouble getting pregnant with all 3 of my children and i smoke, from what your saying you have improved your chances, smoking thickens the blood and does affect fertility have you tried buying an ovulation kit they are really good it worked for me on two occasions, they predict within 24hrs when your going to ovulate, a woman's egg only lasts 24hrs then it dies off a mans sperm lasts much longer Quitting smoking is supposed to help you conceive. If your still having problems try taking prenantal vitamins too. If your body has extra get up and go then your body is more inclined to set up shop for a baby. i smoked a pk a day hun and got prego with being off bc for like a week, i was on my bc for 5 years. i dont think smoking has alot to do with it. I did smoke for awhile.. but it did not affect me! I quit now it's going on 2 years.. ILL I hate cigs smoke!!!! LOL.. Although my man smokes like a fire pit!!!! LOl.. good luck.. I think your going to be OK!! Baby dust ~~~ |
