BCBS and infertility coverage?

Anyone see an RE or other fetility specialist with BCBS insurance? Was the coverage pretty good for basic procedures, meds, etc? I'm in TX and my reg ob/gyn wants me to see an RE right off the bat when we're ready to TTC again. Thanks for any input : )

I can actually help you out...I am on BCBS and located in Texas. I went to my doctor--not an OBGYN and she referred me to a fertility specialist. I have actually had a miscarriage. We have been ttc for 2 years now.

Anyway. I have seen my doctor three times and so far everything is covered. I did an office visit first and come to find out they billed it as infertility/miscarriage. Insurance payed. I was nervous with the diagnosis. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor about how to write the diagnosis. However, I do know that with BCBS they will pay for things that are diagnosing rather than IF.

So--next I had lab work. Insurance paid for that as well.

My husband went to have his lab done (you know what I mean) and we actually paid out of pocket. They are going to check with insurance to see if it pays anything and then reimburse us for that. I am unsure of that part.

I go in Friday for an HSG and insurance is going to pay for that as well. ($1000 procedure) I talked personally with insurance regarding this and my next procedure. Next is the endometrial biopsy. They are paying for that as well.

Good luck but I hoped I eased your fears. Just call up BCBS if you have any questions regarding what they will or will not pay for. THat is what I did and it helped a lot. Before you call, check with your docs office to get teh procedure code they will use when billing. THey may need your diagnosis as well.

I wish you the best of luck.

It is not so much about the insurance company as the state that you live in, where your employer is located etc . . . The good news is the state of Texas does mandate insurance coverage for infertility. You can refer to the Resolve Website for more info:

I also recommend that you contact Fertility Life lines - they have a free hotline that you can call and have someone help you to better understand your coverage and to do an analysis for you:

Good luck!
