Secondary infertility in early 20's?

Hi there, i'm 23-years-old and my husband is nearly 26, we have been trying for our second child for almost 20-months now with no luck.

We had our first child four-years-ago without actually trying for a baby but now we really want a brother or sister for our son - nothing is happening!

i'm pretty confused as we're not overweight, we don't smoke and only drink VERY occasionally, i was told you are most fertile in your early 20's but it's just not happening for us!

We use ovulation tests each month but still nothing seems to work! is it likely we wont be able to have another child, even though we already have one? how common is secondary infertility in your early 20's?

We will go to the doctors to be checked if we're not pregnant by september, meaning we would have been trying for two-years! we just wanted to know if anyone else had a child without trying but then couldn't get pregnant when they *did* actually try for one?

Thank you in advance.

hi hun, i had secondry infertility in my 20s, well im stilli n my 20's lol, turns out i had developed pcos. it may just be the worry of not concieving, the best thing is relax, i know i know easier said than done!!!!! next get checked out, my fist baby wwas a xcompleat suprise, took 3 yrs to concieve my new baby so dont worry to much, good luck xxx

you could be getting too stressed

i was 32 when our son turned up - after trying for 6 years and getting to the point of coming to terms with living without being able to start a family

but 10 years on still no second baby - so now we have gone all the way down the ivf route (just awaiting the day we can take a preggie test)

I had seconday infertility in my 20's and still do. Although I'm still in my 20's till June ;)

It can be fairly common. Even though you aren't overweight there could be some underlying issues or reasons. To me it sound like for some reason you may not be ovulating. You could see your dr now since it's been over a year but waiting till Sept won't hurt you in any way. good luck

I personally don't think you should wait until Sept to see your doctor. The indication is that something is wrong, and it's probably something that can be sorted out quickly.
Get yourself to your doctor asap. You have been trying long enough. Save yourself anymore heartache.

I would also recommend Zita West's Guide to Getting Pregnant. It's a very good book that looks at all sorts of reasons why it might not be happening.

Good luck.

I have two children that we weren't "trying" for. We started to try for another last summer and it took us about 6 months of trying to finally get pregnant, and I'm 22. Just keep at it and try not to stress out. I know that's what everyone will say, but seriously, try. Go for a walk, take a bath, do whatever makes you relax and just go from there.

stress can be a issue also, but if you are that worried then go to the doctor to make sure the both of you are still in good health. you are still young, just make sure you guys are still health!!!!!!!
