Is it a waste of time to see a gyno for infertility, shouldn't I just go to a fertility specialist? |
Is it a waste of time to see a gyno for infertility, shouldn't I just go to a fertility specialist? If you are in your 30s, I'd skip the OB/GYN and go right for a reproductive endocrinologist. No. A gyno can tell you if there's truly something wrong with your body that's making you unable to concieve, and if there isn't, he can educate you on things like the right time to have sex when you're ovulating, ect.... Once you find out you have a medical condition that affects your fertility, then you go see a fertility specialist. Yes but generally your Gyno has to refer you anyway. The gyno is the right place to start. He/she can refer you to a reputable specialist if necessary. Also, depending on your insurance coverage, you may need the referral from the gyno in order for your specialist visits to be covered. I would see your Gyno for the first batch of simple tests -- it will cost you way less if you're having to use an insurance policy that won't cover fertility treatments (most don't). If this is not an issue, or you're on the NHS, then go and visit an R.E. instead. Yes fertility Specialist are more educated on it. MY ob/gyn helped me with my fertility problems. if you have insurance then you need a reference :) |
