Has anybody used the mandated law for infertility in illinois?

i work at walmart in illinois, my doc told me the best chance for us to conceive would be through ivf. i was told our insurance co. would not cover it. so i was wondering if the mandated law in ill would cover it.

Although the law in Illinois does mandate coverage for fertility treatment (including IVF) if you meet the guidelines . . . there are a couple of ways that Walmart may be getting around it. Companies that are self-insured are not required to provide coverage (I am not sure if Walmart is or is not self insured) and the other way around it is if they are headquartered outside of Illinois and are therefore providing coverage from another state and based on another states regulations . . . This is a real possibility as WalMart is nationwide.

The resolve website might help you to better understand the law:

I also recommend that you contact Fertility Lifelines - they have a toll free # that you can call and discuss this in further detail - I called them regarding my own coverage for treatments and they were incrediable! For no charge, they took down my policy information and went over everything that was and was not covered in easy to understand terms:

Where does your partner / husband work? Would switching to his policy be a possibility?

Good luck & baby dust!

I have no idea what the mandated law would cover, but even in the UK where there is a top-notch national health service*, you still have to pay for IVF because it's an optional treatment (like plastic surgery would be).

* before I get tons of thumbs down about the NHS, I don't mean to imply that the quality of service is good, but simply that the service is available to all.
