Is infertility an inheritance?

I have a 3rd degree relative who is a sterile or barren and Im worried if it can be inherited by any relative. Is it possible?? Thanks..

What infertility has to do with "mental" [illness??] as stated above, I'm not sure, as the 2 have no relation to each other and infertility is a *real* disorder, not something people can "think" themselves into.

Anyway - as for your question, a 3rd degree relative with infertility is usually too far removed to have any effect on your personal situation. The short answer is "no."

The long answer is, if Endometriosis or other reproductive concerns that contribute to infertility run in your family, you *do* have a higher risk of possibly suffering from such illness yourself. However, again, the risk is usually attributed to an immediate relative (mother, etc.), not a 3rd degree.

The best way to determine if infertility is going to be a problem for you personally is to start trying (when you are ready, of course) - if between 6 mon. and a year (depending on your age; under 35, 1 yr., over 35, 6 mons.) you still have not been able to conceive, it's time to see your gynecologist and possibly a reproductive endocrinologist.

Good luck.
I'm not a doctor but I say no. I think it is mental and you can definitely inherit that. You'll get better answers then this - I hope from experts. But I don't think you should worry. Where there's a will there's a way.
