Does running cause infertility? |
LIke u can reproduce? I am 18 and i weight 120 and i run like 1 hr to 45 mins 5 days a week is that acceptible? And i eat allot like more then enough for me to keep healthy. So will this cause malnutrition in my body? Women athletes sometimes have problems with infertility because they exercise so much that they don't have enough body fat. Fat cells are essential to estrogen production; without enough estrogen, you cannot ovulate and will not have a period. It doesn't sound like you exercise too much. Your body fat should be between 17% and 25% for you to ovulate and have normal periods. It's hard to calculate body fat, but a rough estimate is your BMI (body mass index). If your BMI is 18 or less you need to gain weight. Calculate your BMI here: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/... If you are eating a balanced diet you will not become malnourished. You should be getting plenty of fruits and vegetables. If you are worried about it you can take vitamins. Extreme exercise can reduce a woman's fertility - the body doesn't take on the burden of a child when you're using so much of your resources already. Keeping healthy isn't the issue - running and other sports can affect the hormone cycle of your body. No i think the running stablizes your body enough so that the food u digest are able to get too where they need to go smoothily and with out hassle. Running + Food = Good Life I've never heard of running causing infertility. I know many people who run for fitness, and atheletes (on TV) that have kids, so my guess is that it isn't generally a problem. Just get regular checkups so yoru doctor can verify your health and make sure you stay on track. As for malnutrition. All we know about your daily diet is "I eat allot like more then enough for me to keep healthy". That tells us nothing really, except that you think you eat well. No way to know whether or not you actually eat enough, and of the proper things, to avoid malnutrition (however I doubt it's an issue as 120 is a nice weight, unless you are very, very tall). Congrats on the desire to be fit and active. Take care of those joints though...running is hard on the body and almost 9 hours a week of it is a LOT of pounding on your feet, ankles, knees, hips, and back. NO. This is a genetic problem for the most part. Cigarette smoking can be a contributing factor as well as drug abuse. Say no to smoking(Nicotine). Say no to drugs, say no to Alcohol and say no to Caffeine. These are all all harmful substances that can be hazardous to ones health and can reduce the sperm cell production. Eat the best foods. |
