Can X-Ray's Cause Infertility in Men? |
I went to the ER because my colitis was flaring up. The Dr. ordered Abdominal X-Rays. During the X-rays I was not given any shielding to protect my groin. The last picture taken the camera was positioned right infront of my groin while I was lying on my back. Why would they take a picture of my groin area? Is that part of the abdominal scan or was it unecessary? Also would these X-rays make me infertile? YES & NO. The Nazi ,during the 2nd.World war used X-rays in very high dosage and repeated prolonged time exposure to sterilise the prisonners of war . Medical Science has gone a long way to improve 1. the dosage. 2.the duration of exposure so much so that there is absolutely no danger of sterilisation during the course of a routine x-ray examination of a patient. So there is no need for shielding ,which may hide the necessary views. With the camera perpendicular over your groin there is a better view of your lower abdomen and pelvis regions. So it was important for a complete view of your abdomen. Of course ,if you are still in doubt, you should consult your doctor for further management. Best Wishes. Source(s): I am an MD. depends where they are taken no Not just one. Not only do they make you infertile, they cause cancer. They might damage the sperm you had in you, but unless they gave you cancer I dont see how that could cause infertility in the long term. That is the only longterm damage xrays can cause. You got about the amount of exposure that an airline pilot gets after about 2-3 flights. It's negligible. |
