Why do people have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and why do some people laugh when they hear of this disorder?

Do you find it to be funny as well?

I agree that the name isn't the best...But I have a friend who has it and from her accounts, believe me, you sure wouldn't be laughing if you had it.

No one knows why people get IBS. I understand the reason people laugh when they hear the name. But it isn't a funny disorder. It is horribly uncomfortable and embarrassing.

I dont find it funny. But I find it sad bc I think IBS is grossly misdiagnosed. I think that in a large majority of IBS cases, it is actually Celiac Disease. A diagnosis of IBS is actually a diagnosis meaning the doc has NO idea what is wrong with you, so if someone gets a diagnosis of IBS, I'd strongly recommend they push for further testing for Celiac, H. pylori and other overlooked medical conditions.
1 in 133 ppl have Celiac and 97% them dont know it.
