Irritable Bowel Syndrome - what should I be eating?

I've read a few answers from other people asking about IBS but no-one really gives the foods that are good for you, they just say fibre and grain, can anyone tell me what foods give you these things and is all fruit good for you?

My friend has just been diagnosed with IBS and I found this site for her... She said it has lots of useful info... http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/

all fruit is good for you. anything with fiber. like fiber one cereal. or oatmeal. multigrain breads.

taco bell with extra hot sauce should do the trick

I used extra fibre. At first Metamucil--it helped but there was a lot of gas. I switched to fiber tablets, and they really helped without the gas.

Cheerios are good for you. Whole grain breads are, too. You don't have to eat the ones that taste like you've scooped a hand full of stuff off the forest floor, either. Sara Lee makes a nice whole grain bread. Buy whole grain pasta instead of white flour pasta. Doesn't really affect the taste. Especially with sauce. Add a scoop of wheat germ to whatever you can...such as batters, bowl of cereal, soup, etc. I'd google the subject to learn more. And some fruit will be better for you than others. Some fruit tends to loosen the bowels, which is not what you're after!

Irriatable bowel Syndrom is not a disease. belive it or not, doctors can be wrong.

this is a symptom of an underlining stimulus or other disease process. go see another doctor.

IBS is just saying "don't know what's wrong with you, u seem healthy, and i don't want the cost of other tests...so go away"

see someone else.

Beans and nuts are high in fiber!

No, I'm joking.

Check webmd for suggestions, but I've found that my bowel issues are distinctly specific to me. I have been doing very well with olive oil and metamuscil in soy milk with Fish oil, and Flax oil capsules every morning.

I believe that each person has specific foods that they should avoid. It has been myexperience that occassional fasting relieves my digestive system of stress. You might consider fasting for a couple days, then testing one reccomended food and wait for results. Slowly and carefully experiment with reccomended foods until you can identify those that you can process well from those that you cannot.

I have fasted as long as 6 days, twice, 4 days several times, and 2 and three times so often that it was a way of life for over a year. There are a number of foods that I dearly loved that I now do not eat. It took me two years of experimenting, and I am still learning. The doctors cannot know you body like you. If you decide to experiment, also consider external sources of stress that might cause or aggravate your symptoms. Reduce the stresses that you can reduce, and find some coping mechanism for stresses that you cannot eliminate or reduce.

Learn to depend on your own self examination than the one diet suits all reccomendations of some doctors.

Years ago I discovere that I digest fried potatoes and green onions very nicely, and doctors will tell us that peole do not digest such a meal "nicely". My doctor was very surprised.

Who knows? Find out for yourself! What upsets you? What makes you feel good?

That's because it's different for each case of iBS.

Experiment with different foods to find out the triggers for you !

Hello,

(ANS) Please refer to my website for suitable foods and see the food listing.

**Proctitis, Ulcerative colitis, colitis & IBS all have VERY similar causal factors so diet is a vital aspect of healing & managing the conditions.

Kind Regards Ivan

The best way to deal with Irritable Bowel Syndrome is to stick your finger up there and have a claw at the spot that's causing you problems.
